People want to live meaningful lives. They want their lives to count for something.
And, of course, crafty marketers take advantage of this basic human impulse. Crafty marketers figure out all sorts of shifty ways to make their products sound like they will make your life more meaningful.
Don’t be fooled; you cannot buy a meaningful life.
Notice that I did not say that you cannot buy something that will benefit your life. Lots of things we buy make life better. Consider examples such as chocolate, books, underwear, computers, garden hoses, and much, much more. All very helpful.
Yet, I’m not aware of anything that can be bought in a store that will make a life more meaningful. You gotta look outside the mall to fulfill that most basic human desire.
