Thank you for clicking to find out a little more about me. I truly appreciate it.
I am Dave Bruno. You can pretty easily find my various online profiles by searching for "Dave Bruno" or "guyanmeddave" at Google (or I suppose at Bing). I'm always open to connecting online, so long as you are not a weirdo.
Recently I've developed something of a voice writing and speaking about American-style consumerism. This is a nascent vocation for me, but I am hopeful for its prospects. I will be writing a book to be published by Harper Perennial in 2010 about my 100 Thing Challenge. Between now and then, I would enjoy writing (say like, in a magazine) or speaking (for example, at a conference) or discussing (in other words, an interview) about the 100 Thing Challenge and consumerism. Please don't hesitate to get in touch.
In addition to writing, I have been an entrepreneur for a while. In 2004 I co-founded ChristianAudio. The rise of ChristianAudio from Starbucks napkin business plan (seriously) to a leading publisher and online source of audiobooks is a real entrepreneur's tale! I sold my stake in the company that I named (also came up with the tagline "listen enjoy think grow") toward the end of 2008. While I was with ChristianAudio, my primary role was to manage our web property. I also did some publishing, of which the Wendell Berry titles are my favorite. Early on, I did quite a bit of our branding and partnership development, and also I raised our first round of additional capital. I maintain my relationships in the publishing world, and if you would like to explore how I can help you with any of your needs in that area, please get in touch.
I would not say that my entrepreneurial days are over, but I now have different views about vocation than I had five years ago. These views creep onto my blog and will likely make it into my book.
Currently I also work at Point Loma Nazarene University helping them with their Web site, which is in the process of a complete overhaul. I should mention that all views expressed on my blog are mine alone, and do not necessarily represent the views of PLNU.
In 2002 I received my M.A. from Wheaton College in American Religious History. In 1997 I received my B.A. from Moody Bible Institute in Bible and Theology.
I'm quite happily married to a lovely wife who is an thoughtful reader and reviewer of books, not to mention one damn good cook. I am still reveling in the leftover chicken pot pie I reheated for dinner tonight. Together we've helped God make three wonderful daughters, who are doing an excellent job of growing up. Our family has adopted one dog and three cats. One of the cats is still living. We do have two one guinea pig, as well. And we've cycled through more hamsters, fish, and other bugs than I can keep track.
Blogs I've maintained in the past include the pre-2008 guynameddave and my original anti-consumerism harangue StuckInStuff. Themes from both of those blogs, plus much more, are represented here.
